I have always held a keen interest in the symbolic relationship between the body and mind connection, the communication between our thoughts and feelings and how this can influence the link to both stress and physical illness. When we are stressed our brains are triggered into a process of physiological responses, releasing increased levels of hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline, so we can feel hijacked with unhelpful thoughts.
These stressors can take a toll on our bodily systems, leading to a compromised immune function. With such stressors there can be a high incidence of anxiety disorders, depression, stomach complaints, fatigue, insomnia and migraines.
In my experience, understanding the psychological problem has often been found to help alleviate the physical problems that we tend to ‘live with’.
Counselling truly can be an instrumental way of valuing your body and mind balance.
